Oh, the ’70s

Turret room
The entertainment room in the mansion we lived in on Union Street in Emporia, Kansas. It is in the turret on the 4th floor. Note the banjo and guitar leaning against the mylar papered walls. Macrame plant hanger and carpet pieced flooring. Our car was a Mercedes Benz. We were livin’ large.

8th Street Artists Reflection

Reflection
Sitting at Bon Bon last evening, my eye was drawn to the setting sun reflecting in the windows that formerly housed 8th Street Artists from 1984-1990.  Diana Dunkley, Cathy Ledeker, and Louis Copt shared the space for their respective art studios and gallery space.  Legendary parties. Now the building is the site of the Poehler Lofts – state-of-the-art apartments. The Poehler Building has become the heart of the Warehouse Arts District in Lawrence, Kansas. This former warehouse built in 1904 has been rehabbed into modern design loft apartments.

The stuff I keep! Here I am, in Dortmund, Germany 41 years ago. Hitchhiking through Europe on my honeymoon, Louie and I stayed with our friends, Klaus and Barbel. Louie and Jim Brothers met Klaus and Barbel when they careened through Europe in 1968. Barbel is coming to visit us here in Lawrence, Kansas next month.
The stuff I keep! Here I am, in Dortmund, Germany 41 years ago. Hitchhiking through Europe on my honeymoon, Louie and I  were on a mission to find and pore over all the original art that we could only look at in our art history books in college.  We were staying with our German friends, Klaus and Barbel, in Dortmund. We visited this lovely little museum in Dortmund.  We were the only patrons there. It was quiet.  It was cold. But friends and art warmed us thoroughly. Louie and Jim Brothers met Klaus and Barbel when they careened through Europe in 1968. Barbel is coming to visit us here in Lawrence, Kansas next month.
